Outline
Session 1 is hosted by the Core Research Cluster of Disaster Science (designated national university). It reports on activities aimed at systematizing interdisciplinary, among science, engineering, medicine, and humanities and social sciences, as disaster resilience studies. Also, we introduce the research activities of the University of London (UCL), Harvard University, and the University of Washington (UW), all of which are cross-appointed faculty members with the Core Research Culster's budget. Based on the various research activities, the Core Research Center will discuss and disseminate the ideal disaster resilience from the viewpoint of disaster science research. Specifically, corresponding to the time phase of the disaster cycle,
A. hazard risk science, which focuses on advanced prediction and disaster prevention; and
B. real-time disaster science, focusing on damage assessment and response immediately after a disaster, and
C. quick recovery science, which focuses on rapid recovery from disasters and human resource development, and
D. community reconstruction Science, which highlights strengthening community capacity to disasters and its lore.
This session concludes with reports on these four major research projects that systemize and integrate interdisciplinary research topics in natural science, engineering, medicine, and human and social science and establish the only Holistic Disaster Science Center of Excellence (HDSCoE) worldwide.
