Outline

"Recognizing the period to 2023 marks the midpoint in implementing the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (SFDRR), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) considers the Mid-Term Review (MTR) is highly important to understand the progress and challenges and to accelerate the path to achieve the goal of the SFDRR and its seven global targets by 2030.

Under the situation, this session will provide the opportunity for DRR related government stakeholders to discuss the way forward to achieve the global target of the SFDRR by 2030 through sharing the current progress for MTR of the SFDRR from each government.

Main discussion theme is “how to increase pre-disaster investment for reducing disaster risks and achieving the SFDRR”. In the session, representative from respective DRR agencies will discuss 1) Important findings/achievement of the SFDRR, 2) Challenges to achieve the SFDRR and 3) Future plans to accelerate the implementation of SFDRR as well as promote pre-disaster investment.

The Insights and learnings from this session are expected to be used for the next course of action in each country and to be shared at the High-Level Meeting of the General Assembly on the Midterm Review of the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 which will take place from 18-19 May 2023 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The outcomes of the session are also expected to contribute to make an effective political declaration which will be summarized and adopted in the Mid-Term Review."
