Outline
In addition to natural disasters such as earthquakes and tsunamis, new complex risks due to climate change are increasing. While introducing recent Japan and international trends in these areas, we report on the efforts of the Tokyo Marine Endowment Department, an industry-university collaboration organization established at the International Research Institute of Disaster Science, Tohoku University. In order to reduce the damage caused by disasters, in addition to technological advance disaster reduction, adaptation, and investment based on scientific evaluation, new collaborations for building a resilient society through the use of ecosystems and the improvement of human society's ability to respond will be discussed.
