Outline
Japan has characteristics that make it prone to natural disasters regardless of location, such as the Great East Japan Earthquake in 2011, the Kumamoto Earthquake in 2016, the heavy rainfall in the Northern part of Kyushu and the Northern Osaka Earthquake in 2018, and the Hokkaido Eastern Iburi Earthquake in 2018, the Noto Peninsula Earthquake and Oku-Noto Heavy Rain in 2024. In order to respond to such natural disasters, it is necessary to strengthen the resilience of communities based on lessons learned from past disasters. In particular, as the number of regions facing population decline and aging increases, there is an urgent need to develop disaster prevention leaders who will take responsibility for their communities. The National Institution For Youth Education has been holding disaster prevention meetings for junior and senior high school students since 2018, using youth education facilities all over the country, and developing disaster prevention junior leaders. The number of times has been counted eight times in seven years and has produced many disaster prevention leaders. We will introduce an overview of the disaster prevention conference and what the high school students who participated in the conference learned.
