Outline
This study aims to build a new "Multicultural Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Community" by collaborating with international students and former international students who have settled in Japan after completing their studies. Given the increasing emphasis on the importance of "self-help," "mutual aid," and "public assistance" in strengthening regional disaster prevention and mitigation capabilities, international students and graduates are envisioned as key mediators between local communities andforeign residents. In this presentation, we will introduce cases of domestic disaster prevention and mitigation activities led by international students, the design, implementation, and evaluation of intercultural collaborative learning programs for young people (from middle school to university students), and the participation of international students in the creation and revision of local disaster prevention and mitigation manuals. Based on the insights gained from these initiatives, we will discuss the fundamental concepts and key design principles of a multicultural disaster prevention and mitigation education program.
